The celebration of Africa Day 2015 –  “Women Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063”

The African Embassies in Stockholm are hosting the annual “Africa Day Celebration” on the 28th May, 2015. Similar to each year, a particular theme is assigned the evening celebrations and the theme for this year’s Africa Day falls under the African Union’s 2015 theme, “Women Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063”. Every year, the organizing African Embassies pay meticulous attention to their choice of venue, entertainment, and theme as to honor the African Union’s aspirations. Africa Day is an opportunity for the African Embassies to organize an evening that seeks to both showcase and celebrate the positive developments and aspirations of the African continent and highlight the African spirit.

H.E. Ms. Isabella Lövin, Minister for International Development Cooperation is the Guest of Honor of the event. Ms. Lövin will be delivering the keynote speech.

The celebration’s program consists of an interesting variety of entertainment and content with diverse music artists from East, West, South and North Africa. Alongside speeches and music, the evening will exhibit a slideshow commemorating influential and inspiring women that have contributed to the promotion and support of female empowerment in the African continent. There will also be fashion shows that display modern African clothing by professional designers and Jewelry designers and another displaying the diverse colors and patterns of African traditional clothing.

The evening will host a dinner buffet which will display a diverse array of gourmet dishes covering the African continent. At the end of the evening’s program there will be an East African band (Dekula Band) that will get the audience on their feet, concluding the program on a positive musical note.
